Can I use Permatex gasket maker instead of a paper gasket? On many flanged joints, yes, provided the surfaces are flat and clean. Use the right chemistry for the job: high temp red or copper silicone near exhaust heat, Ultra Grey or Ultra Black for oil resistant engine and case joints.
