What do the numbers on a motorcycle tire mean?

Take 120/70-17: 120 is the width in millimetres, 70 is the aspect ratio (sidewall height as a percentage of the width), and 17 is the wheel diameter in inches. How do I know what size motorcycle tire I need?

The size, load rating, and speed rating are printed on the sidewall, and you should match the size your bike came with unless a shop advises otherwise.

What is the difference between radial and bias tires?

Radials run cooler and hold their shape at speed, so they suit sport and most modern bikes. Bias tires carry load well and are common on cruisers and older machines. Fit what your bike was built for, and you can sort by construction with the filters here.

What is the difference between sport, touring, cruiser, and dual-sport tires?

How long do motorcycle tires last, and when should I replace them?

It depends on the tire and how you ride, but most street tires last somewhere between 5,000 and 15,000 km. Replace them when the tread hits the wear bars, when you see cracking or flat spots, or once they are past about six years old no matter the tread, since the rubber hardens with age.

What tire pressure should I run?

Go by the pressure in your owner's manual or on the bike's sticker, not the number moulded into the tire, which is the maximum. Check it when the tires are cold, before you ride.

Can I fit a wider tire than stock?

Usually not worth it. A wider tire can rub the swingarm, change how the bike steers, and sit poorly on a rim that was not built for it. Stick with your stock size unless a shop confirms your bike can take more.

Should I replace both motorcycle tires at once?

It is best to run a matched set, but if only one is worn you can replace it with the same model to keep the handling consistent.
