A motorcycle jacket is your first line of protection in a crash and your defense against wind, rain and cold, so it is worth getting one built for riding rather than a fashion piece. Leather vs textile vs mesh
Leather jackets give the best abrasion resistance and a classic look, ideal for sport and cruiser riders. Textile jackets are lighter, often waterproof, and built for touring and commuting in changing weather. Mesh jackets flow air to keep you cool in summer, and many come with removable armor and liners so one jacket works across seasons.

What to look for
Check for CE-rated armor at the shoulders and elbows, a back protector or a pocket to add one, and a snug but mobile fit over your normal layers. If you ride into the cold months, a heated jacket or a thermal liner makes a real difference.
