Modulars are the go-to for touring and commuting, where the convenience of flipping the chin bar up pays off at every gas stop and red light. The trade-off versus a one-piece full face is a little extra weight and road noise from the hinge mechanism, so if you ride long distances, look for a composite shell to keep the weight down.

On safety, look for DOT or ECE certification just as you would on a full face.
